Our Products

Radiata pine is widely grown in New Zealand. When sourced from mature forest stands the wood is of excellent quality, being stable, strong, and able to be finely machined into attractive pieces. Being a softwood, when used for outdoor purposes, the timber requires to be preservatively treated. Dashwood Timber focuses on pine species for excellent reasons, but we also stock other quality exotic timbers.

Pine Timber, Posts & Poles (Pinus radiata)

Photo: PolesRadiata pine is the most commonly used timber in New Zealand. Typically used for all outdoor applications such as fencing, decking, landscaping, cattle and sheep yards, and general building purposes. Our own pine stocks are locally grown on the hills of Marlborough, and nearly all milled, dried and treated here on site.

Besides timber we also produce and stock for sale a range of posts and poles from 1.8m - 6.0m, in various diameters. We have a great Post Peeler. If you have some suitable trees just dock a few to length and drop them off to our yard and we will peel and treat them for your own personal use. This provides a significant financial saving for you, and is a good way to make use of wind throw and thinnings. To find out more about this, please visit our Services page.

Because Pine is classified as a softwood, and is susceptible to rot, moulds, and insect attack, it is economical, and environmentally sensible to treat the timber and posts with a preservative when they are to be used in situations where the wood is exposed to outdoor conditions. This extends the life from roughly 1 year, to 40 + years. Thus Preservative Treatment is practical and ensures that our forest resources are not needlessly wasted, and given adequate time to replenish.
